Biography
Carolina Bieri (she/her/hers) is a doctoral student in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include land-atmosphere interactions and land surface model development. As part of her master's work, she completed an observational and modeling analysis to elucidate relationships between soil moisture, temperature, and atmospheric circulation patterns in southeastern South America. She is a member of the Hydrometeorology Group led by Professor Francina Dominguez.
Carolina grew up in the Chicago area and completed her bachelor's degree in atmospheric science at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She has previously held summer research appointments at Texas A&M University and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). She also recently returned from a year abroad in Spain as a Fulbright grantee. In addition to her research interests related to atmospheric science, she is also passionate about increasing participation of underrepresented groups in the sciences. In her free time, Carolina enjoys caring for her cat, cooking, and spending time outdoors.
